What are BOOX?

Books in a box. Or, more specifically, a series of high-quality original photographic prints packaged in an elegantly crafted portfolio. Made in the tradition of the fine book using only the state-of-the-art materials, and done with superior craftsmanship in printing. The text is hand-set and printed letterpress on acid-free paper.

Printed in a limited edition of 250, each BOOX is signed and numbered by Horst Hamann and contains twelve original silver gelatin prints. The prints have been exlusively produced for this special edition and most have not been published before. They have been hand printed in Berlin, Germany by one of the remaining masters in the field. The prints are collected in an exquisitely crafted clamshell portfolio, include a personal statement printed in letterpress on fine vellum. Every detail in the production of a BOOX is supervised by the photographer and produced to the exacting standards that are a hallmark of his work.

Together these photographs and their packaging create a visual and sensual experience. The result is a precious and intimate work of art that is both affordable and of the highest quality and artistic value. Dedicated to the World Trade Towers, this first edition is a fitting reflection of the artistÕs love for his adopted city.

The creator of BOOX is German-born photographer Horst Hamann. He is a recipient of the Kodak Photobook Award and the Photo Design Gold award. His books include NEW YORK VERTICAL and HORST HAMANN NEW YORK (te Neues Publishing/Edition Panorama) and he is currently teaching photography at the International Center of Photography in New York. His photographs have been widely exhibited and are included in numerous permanent collections, both public and private in the United States and abroad.
